After a stint in the army, making double-glazing and cleaning blood from the walls of the Wellcome Laboratories, Tareq founded his own marketing agency in 1993. It was a success and soon bought out by a large computer company. Despite the success, Tareq realised that this career path wasn’t for him. Inspired by the fact that he was already taking better photographs than some of his professional friends, he quit his company directorship, handed back the keys to the BMW, and started work as a runner at the post-production facility VTR. Within a year he was working as a professional colourist, and before long was working with some of the biggest names in music videos. In 2001 he won the inaugural CADS award for Best Telecine Artist. A host of other awards followed, for his ground breaking telecine work with top directors including Stuart Douglas, Vaughan Arnell and Tarsem. Tareq has been making short films, taking photographs and writing short stories since his childhood. His experimental short Stealth, a collaboration with photographer Julian Broad and ex. Royal Ballet dancers and choreographers Michael Nunn and William Trevitt, was aired on Channel 4, and was followed by another experimental dance short, Pole Dancer. So far Tareq as directed commercials for companies like boutique hotel purveyors Mr & Mrs Smith, Taptu and Vicks as well as filming promos and documentaries for classical pianist James Rhodes and fine artist Charming Baker....
