Every director’s biography will say that they love to direct beautiful, epic visuals, elicit subtle performances from both actors and non-actors, shoot comedy dialogue work, action filled dramatic spots, emotive vignettes, complicated special effects and so on. They’ll say that their careers began aged six making Super-8 short films in Dad’s garage, that they have a film based University degree (finishing top of their year) and/or served a long apprenticeship in the industry before emerging as the hottest new talent in the world. They’ll all talk about nuance and emotion and how they strive to distill the narrative core of the concept down into “the moment”. And they’ll all say how they’ve won bucket loads of awards and would love to win truckloads more on ads they’ll be shooting with you. I’m no different....
